Motels are places that people go to change an opinion on something or to find a new perspective. Being a temporary inhabitant of a permanent structure allows for a change in perception on time and leads to a potential sense of vulnerability. There’s a certain risk involved in deciding to temporarily inhabit a space, because sometimes, the next step forward is unclear.  [--]PLOSION is a collection of spaces that attempt to keep its transitory inhabitants on edge.  Shard-like units connect via identical notches and hold each other together in suspension.  The motel living spaces are generated by a more random arrangement of notched triangles potentially assembled by the inhabitants themselves, while larger spaces are formed by a system of column framing based on the notched triangles and are modularly constructed and connected.

Here is every possible scale of modules. This project was a true study of modular construction as well as scale.

Figuring out how to quickly construct a representation of the living module, then making it at every possible scale.
